Brother Said, Sister Said; Sister Said, Brother Said

By Paul Kim and Jenny Kim

But in fact God has arranged the parts in the body, every one of them, just as he wanted them to be. If they were all one part, where would the body be? As it is, there are many parts, but one body. (1 Corinthians 12:18-20)

Ideal Car

He Said:
Must be stick-shift, no exceptions. And you're either a Truck Man or a Roadster Man (although I think there is a law that says that you can't have the latter without first owning the former).
The only automobile I've ever owned was a truck, so I'm partial to them. I love the Chevy Avalanche - it's both a truck and a SUV. What more needs to be said? Ingenious. Akin to Sony Playstation 2's DVD Player. For Roadster types, the Audi TT. In silver. No cheesy red. All other roadsters are too played out.

She Said:
Just because: Off-white, antique Jaguar.
For road trips: Cheesy-red, Mustang convertible (in the spirit of Thelma & Louise).
Sensible: Forest-green, Subaru Outback.
For actually getting around: Screaming yellow, NYC cab!

Perfect Day

He Said:
Steak, eggs, and freshly-squeezed orange juice for breakfast...in bed.
Read the Sports Section of USA Today...also in bed.
Learn that Katie Couric and Rosie O'Donnell are canned.
A round of golf. I shoot a 70. Even eagle a hole.
Shrimp cocktail and prime rib for dinner...not in bed.
Watch the Lakers sweep the Sixers in Game Four of the Finals. At the Staples Center. Courtside seats. Next to Jack Nicholson.
Watch post-coverage of the Lakers sweep on NBC.
Watch post-post coverage of the Lakers sweep on ESPN/Fox Sports West
Thank the Man Upstairs. For the Lakers. For the eagle. For the day.

She Said:
Morning: Any morning when I can lay in my bed (pj's and dirty hair in pony) with a bottomless pot of fresh-brewed coffee and the perfect batch of scones, watching the morning show with Katie Couric and Matt Lauer.
Afternoon: Sitting on a park bench or sidewalk cafe, musing about life with good company, the sun stroking my face.
Evening: Good food, good company, good music, good laughs.

Ideal Movie

She Said:
Anne of Green Gables of course! Anything based on Austen's novels (Emma, Pride & Prejudice, Sense and Sensibility). Nothing with Leonardo in it. Definitely Robert Redford or Russell Crowe!
Crowd/Man Pleaser: Braveheart, Gladiator, L.A. Confidential
Artbox/Foreign: Trainspotting, Billy Elliot, Cinema Paradiso, Memento, Kikujiro
Girl power: Bridget Jones' Diary and Legally Blonde
Classics: Funny Girl, Breakfast at Tiffany's, Roman Holiday

He Said:
None in the Anne of Green Gables, Emma, Meg Ryan, Bridget Jones' Diary, Serendipity genre. Nothing with Leonardo in it. That's a no-no. Ditto for Robert Redford. Julia Roberts's out too. Ed Norton's legit.
Serious: Glory or Braveheart
Sports: Rudy or Slap Shot
Romantic Comedy: N/A
John Woo: Hard Boiled or The Killer
Afraid to Say It, But We Like Very Much: Billy Elliot
Overall: Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels

Ideal Christmas Gift

She Said:
Trekking in the Andes.
Spa retreat in Santa Fe.
Snorkeling in Hawaii.
Snowboarding at Whistler.
Lazy month at the Castellino Vineyard in Tuscany.
Anything that spells v-a-c-a-t-i-o-n or a-d-v-e-n-t-u-r-e-!

He Said:
Courtside seats to the NBA Finals. Doesn't matter which year since the Lakers will be playing anyway.
Ski or snowboard set with roundtrip airline tickets, accommodations, and lift passes to Whistler/Blackcomb, British Columbia.

Definition of Success

She Said:
Good daughter, wife, mother, sister, and friend.
Being a good steward of the resources and opportunities given me.
Not being intimidated by fear, but living life gracefully and compassionately.
Bearing the fruit of the Spirit.
Enjoying what I do (work) and being good at it.
Remaining a hopeful romantic.
Going on moonlit walks with my honey, barefeet, when we're old and gray.
Hearing Him say, "Well done, my good and faithful servant."

He Said:
Good husband, father, brother, and friend.
Responsible steward of finances.
Humble servant to the church.
Being able to cook a medium steak to perfection on a barbeque grill, only turning it over once.

What I Appreciate About Men

She Said:
They're easy-going (or are they?).
Their humor (which tends to be adolescent, but cute).
Their perspective, which brings richness and even wisdom to our understanding.
They appear hard and tough on the outside, but are really soft and tender inside.
They can always be reasoned with (if needed, through tears).

He Said:
They always carry gum.
Their dedication to the church and to their families.
Their warmth and gentleness balanced with a tough-as-nails interior.
Their patience with us men.
