Guy on the Street: Winter 2002 Edition
It's the Guy on the Street. He asks the questions, you give him the answers. In this edition, the Guy on the Street asks about Christmas, the holiday everyone loves. But why do we love it? How do we love it? Here's what the Guy on the Street found out…
1) What is you favorite part about Christmas?
Sarah Sung: Giving the right gifts to others.
John Yoon: Giving to others.
David Lee: A week off of school! No really, just getting to relax and do something different for a change.
Young Hwang Bo: Pretty decorations and Christmas carols & festivity
Amy Jeon: Duh, the gifts.
Clara Jeong: The joyous feeling all over the place
Jen Lee: Seeing my family.
Paul Kim: Walking into a place and hearing Christmas carols over the speakers
2) What is your favorite Christmas carol?
Sarah Sung: "O, Holy Night"
John Yoon: Gloria? Noel? I don't know.
David Lee: "Father Christmas" (not a carol, but a Christmas song nonetheless).
Young Hwang Bo: "O, Holy Night"
Amy Jeon: "O, Holy Night"
Clara Jeong: What's the title of that song... it start like "Chestnuts roasting on an open fire~"
Jen Lee: "God rest ye merry gentlemen."
Paul Kim: "Angels we have heard on high" - I love belting out the "glooooooooria" part.
3) What is the memorable Christmas gift you ever received?
Sarah Sung: The most memorable was receiving a Barbie doll, Barbie Mcdonalds, and the Barbie Townhome.
John Yoon: Money! I always get money. But the most memorable was when I got a sweater from a girl I had a crush on.
David Lee: Jesus Christ (I was saved around Christmas)
Young Hwang Bo: Can't remember a specific one right at this moment, but...Christmas cake. Until I was about 10, my dad used to buy a birthday cake each year for Christmas and we sang happy birthday to Jesus.
Amy Jeon: A dog
Clara Jeong: I remember I was the happiest when I received Share Bear (One of the Care Bears). I still have it.
Jen Lee: One that showed the giver was listening and really cared.
Paul Kim: First pair of skis
4) How and when did you figure out Santa wasn't for real?
Sarah Sung: One Christmas eve, my family was snowed in at a friend's place. When we got back home the next day, my relatives were already there and the presents were under the tree, unwrapped....that's when I knew that there was no Santa Claus.
John Yoon: He's not for real??
David Lee: John Yoon took my answer…
Young Hwang Bo: When: when I was able to reason (way back when in Korea). How: "Dad, our chimney is only 10cms wide... how can Santa come down?" They should have modified the story to fit Korean houses...
Amy Jeon: I never believed in Santa because I never really received gifts from "Santa." My parents usually just asked us what we wanted.
Clara Jeong: When: When I was in fourth grade. How: SooJin (yes, Pastor Steve's wife) told me.
Jen Lee: When my parents wouldn't put a stamp on a letter I was going to send to Santa.
Paul Kim: I think I was 8 when I saw the same wrapping paper Santa used on my gifts lining the inside of my dresser drawers.
The Guy on the Street applauds these Merry Men (and Women), and hopes that they seek professional help someday. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
