Acquire The Fire : "Unshakeable"Title: Unshakeable
This CD is the latest from the people who brought you Acquire the Fire teen conferences, namely Ron Luce and Teen Mania. This year's Acquire the Fire theme is "Unshakable", hence the name of the CD. In a departure from the previous two albums, the songs are not live recordings led by Ron Luce. This CD features an all star roster of Christian artists, in the studio, doing covers and some original songs. The artists themselves, depending on the dates and venue, apparently participate in the conferences. Matt Redman's "Holy Moment", performed by Superchic[k] is the first track. It has energy and zip. It's a great cover. Superchic[k] has only one album out, but they are seemingly everywhere from MTV's real world, to television shows such as Providence, and Alias. Most recently I heard Superchic[k]'s "One Girl Revolution" on the movie Legally Blond. One of my favorites on the album is "I Wannna Be Clean" by Nick Gonzales of Salvador. The lyrics are so simple, yet it captures the heart of a worshipper in love with Jesus. "At your feet Lord I bow. Search me oh God and know me now. Take this sin from my heart. I wanna be just as you are. I wanna be clean. I wanna be pure. I wanna be holy. I wanna be yours."Some people might not like this song because it's about OUR desire and yearning (re: it's not about "Who God is"). It is nevertheless, our song of love for God. I wanna be clean, not because that's what my parents and friends or pastors want for me. I wanna be pure, not because it's the "the right thing to do". I wanna be holy, not because I'm gonna' be judged and condemned otherwise. I wanna' be all these things because I am in love with Jesus. I wanna' be like Him, the one I love. Other covers on the album include, "Wonderful Cross", "You Are My King", and "God of Wonders". They are okay, but I like the originals better. I guess "God of Wonders" is THE song of 2001 because everyone is doing it. The voice on the refrain on "Wonderful Cross", Ron Luce's or Brad Olson (The Waiting)?, doesn't quite fit. "History Maker", a Delirious? cover by Plumb, rocks!! When I saw their name listed on the CD, I couldn't wait to hear them (I own Plumb's second album, Candy Coated Water Drops, and frankly it's the best CD I bought in 1999). I wasn't disappointed; this is my favorite song on this disc. Check out the base on this track! Unshakeable by Phil Joel of Newsboys fame, is pretty predictable; it's signiture Phil Joel. If you like Newsboys, which I do, then you'll like this song. On the whole, an enjoyable album. It suffers alittle bit because it lacks cohesiveness - too many artists with too many different styles. Nonetheless, a good modern worship album. I give it a 3.5 out of 5.
