After purchasing Newsboys' last album, Love Liberty Disco and being very disappointed with that purchase (very disappointed), I was reluctant to do a review for their newest album, Thrive. However, after listening to the album, I've come to the following conclusion: it's not bad.

This really isn't an album to listen to if you want to get into that "worshipful" mood. The album has a more upbeat, alternative pop sound and is good to listen to for background music (like when you're driving or doing chores). I haven't done any kind of theological analysis on the lyrics so I can't go into any detail on that, but I can say that I found some of the lyrics to be pretty cheesy (not theologically incorrect, just poorly thought out). The songs on this album that I really like are "Million Pieces (Kissin' Your Cares Goodbye)", "Thrive", and "Rescue". The other songs range from OK to forgettable.

Recommendation: I don't think I can honestly recommend buying this album considering the fact that I seriously doubt that I would buy it myself. But I will say that if you are a Newsboys fan or if you like Christian alternative pop, then you should buy this album. Otherwise, I recommend that you borrow this album from a friend who has it (like I did), because this album is worth listening to a couple of times.

"I believe Newsboys has a very appealing way of writing music. Their lyrics are not I guess a get down on your knees and fall apart for God. It's more like a realization of reality and how you can overcome certain situations. I loved the song Million Pieces (Kissin' your cares goodbye). It truly shows how we hold onto so much and how much we need to let go of everything except him. I Believe they are a truly wonderful and inspiring band with a real heart for God and his glory."
