Salvador "Salvador"

Los Lobos doing praise? Not quite, but close. Rockability with a distinct Hispanic flavor: Horns, jazzy keyboards, and Latin passion - I mean, purcussions.

The CD switches back and forth between english and spanish lyrics - a true multi-ethnic experience indeed - which reminds me of the praise and worship at Living Word Community Church in Center City Philadelphia. The word "multi-ethnic" is a popular buss word in Christian circles now a days. Easy to claim, difficult to accomplish (too much pride). Sadly, to this day, I really haven't seen a true multi-ethnic church. Perhaps the congregation that comes close is Living Word Community, with Spirit and Truth of North Philly coming a close second. Check it out yourself.

Speaking of multi-ethnic, for those of you who's been to Emmanuel and Spirit and Truth's joint praise and worship (or to any Spanish speaking church for that matter), will recognize "Montana." Performed intirely in Spanish, this song is about how faith like a mustard seed can move mountains.

Many of you will remember "David Danced", an old youth group praise song. Based on 2 Samuel 6:14, when "David, wearing a linen ephod, danced before the Lord with all his might..." This version is up dated, bilingual and eminently danceable.

My favorite is "Crucified", a song deep in theology. As Christians, we believe that God became one of us, lived among us, and died a shameful death on the cross for us. Because God was crucified, paying in full for all our sins....we will never experience the true suffering that Christ suffered: being cut off from the love of the Father. Therefore when seemingly random difficulties come our way, and sooner or later they will, we know that it can not be because we have sinned because Christ paid it in full. Other times, when suffering comes because of our obedience to Christ, we remind ourselves that a servant is not greater than His master. And by suffering, we are fellowshipping with Him in His suffering. Thus the singer can sing: "With all my heart, my soul, my might; I lift up my hands, lay down my life; I'm crucified with Christ."
