Caedmon’s Call "In The Company of Angels - A Call To Worship"Title: In The Company of Angels - A Call To Worship
"In the presence of God" is how members of Caedmon’s Call describes the production of their latest album, In The Company of Angels - A Call To Worship. A CD composed of worshipful ballads that focus on the praise and honor of our heavenly Father. In the midst of this worship, there is a strong sense of fellowship and Christian community amongst the members of the group (rather than just one or two songwriters this was a collaborative endeavor of the entire Caedmon’s Call community). This has long been the primary goal and desire of the band - to glorify God and bring a spirit of community amongst believers through music. Cliff Young, the lead singer for Caedmon’s Call, describes the purpose of this album: "We’re all called to be a hand or a foot or a face in our local body of Christ, and hopefully we’ve played our musician role in that by playing instruments and leading worship. All we’re trying to do through this record is express what we’ve been doing in our church for a long time. We’re not trying to pull music out of nowhere and put it down. This is an extension of something we’ve been a part of for years." The longing to worship God and directing others to have a similar passion for Christ has always been evident in their songs. For this reason, I’ve always enjoyed listening to their CD’s. In particular this CD, being a worship album, clearly expresses who God is and the measure of His worth. He alone is worthy is the apparent message of songs such as, "God of Wonders" which describes the wonder and majesty of our Creator and King, "Who You Are" describes the nature and characteristics of God, "God Who Saves" emphasis’ the praise of our Lord and Savior, etc. "God of Wonders" (this is a live version) and "Who You Are", are songs that remind the listener of God’s greatness. How easy it is for Christians to get lost in the midst of struggles and problems while forgetting that God is so much bigger than anything imaginable. He is holy and awesome, yet in His holiness and majesty, He chose to love us and guide us through our hardships. Many of the songs on this CD portray a similar picture of God. "We Delight", is an statement of a believer’s joy in knowing Christ and obeying His law and decree. Obedience is something that Christians have difficulty doing. It’s hard to obey God when our nature is to do otherwise. This song reminds us that there is joy in serving the Lord: not necessarily an external, worldly joy but an eternal pleasure of knowing Christ as our Savior. These are examples of some of the songs on this CD. I genuinely appreciate this album for the simple fact that every song on the list clearly shows the heart and desire of the worshipper to know God more and glorify his name. One song in particular stands out: "Thy Mercy" demonstrates the song writers desire to make the mercy of God the center and theme of his song. This relates to my desire to make the mercy of God - Christ, the theme of my life. Although, the sound and style of this record is very different from their previous albums, it captures a more universal feel of contemporary and traditional worship. "This CD has a more ‘old world’ feel," describes Garett Buell, percussionist for the band. The fact that some of the songs were written centuries ago attribute to this fact. I would say that this CD has a good blend of traditional and modern sounds that make it enjoyable for the audience to hear. I recommend this CD mainly because it leaves the listener in awe of God and wanting to worship Him not just in worshipful settings but in daily living as well. Discography
