Lincoln Brewster "Live To Worship"

Title: Live To Worship
Category: Contemporary Praise
Artist/Group: Lincoln Brewster
Rating: 4 / 5
With all due respect to comedian Drew Carey, this cd is like Cleveland...It truly ROCKS!

Brewster's sophmore effort, "Live to Worship" is very much a product of a new generation; a generation whose music is heavier, livelier, and more sophisticated then that of previous generations.

Brewster first broke into the music industry as the lead guitarist for Steve Perry, former lead singer for Journey. While he was on tour, he would meet hundreds of people who were looking for something that was missing from their lives. The shows they did were entertaining, but not life-changing. And after experiencing Christ in his own life, he knew there was more to offer. After the tour, Lincoln and his wife Laura made their home in Modesto, California, where they attended Calvary Temple Church. There Lincoln found a spiritual father in Senior Pastor Glenn Berteau. Pastor Berteau took a chance on Lincoln and offered him a position at the church as associate music director and youth worship leader.

On his freshman release entitled, "Lincoln Brewster", I felt that Lincoln's playing was much better. Brewster wowed me with his musical virtuosity and established himself in my mind as one of the best guitarists in Christian music today. The only problem was that in my opinion, the quality of his songwriting was suspect. This time around, although Brewster doesn't play as much, the songwriting is significantly better. For example, check out "Take me Higher", "Superstar" and "Caught in the Moment"; 3 solid examples of modern praise song writing.

Jars of Clay's Dan Haseltine and Charlie Lowell appear on the CD. Charlie plays the B3 organ throughout the CD and Dan sings a duet with Lincoln on "Power of your Love".

This is a great CD. Good songwriting, good musicianship, excellent recording. I have to give this CD a 4/5.
